Happy Birthday Hoosier Lottery

Oct. 13, 2014 – The Hoosier Lottery is celebrating its 25th birthday today.  On Oct. 13, 1989, Hoosier Millionaire scratch-off tickets went on sale, marking the beginning of the Lottery’s now-25 year history. Those scratch-offs inspired the Hoosier Millionaire Game Show, which ran from Nov. 1989 all the way to Dec. 2005, and has since become a live game show that players can compete to appear on. The Hoosier Lottery has seen dozens of jackpot winners (including the most Powerball winners in the country), they’ve introduced new ways to play draw games and scratch-offs, and most importantly, they’ve done a whole lot of good for the state of Indiana. According to a Hoosier Lottery press release, the Lottery has generated more than $4 billion since 1989 for the good causes the state supports. Transfers to the state passed $4.2 billion in Feb. 2013, at the same time that total winnings topped $9.1 billion – what a lucky state!  And thanks to all those winners, retailers were able to collect more than $1 billion in lottery commissions by that time, too. In the past year, players have earned themselves another $300 million in prizes – bringing total winnings to more than $9.4 billion – and retailers have earned more than $100 million more in commissions. So where did the Lottery’s $4 billion share go?  Most of it went to help lower the price of Indiana residents’ cars; the Hoosier Lottery has donated more than $3.1 billion to the Build Indiana Fund, which, according to a Lottery press release, is “primarily used to reduce motor vehicle excise tax.” Police, firefighters and teachers all benefit too: since 1989, the Lottery has contributed more than $521 million to police and firefighters’ pensions, and more than $707 million to the Teachers’ Retirement Fund. So next time you pick up a Hoosier Lottery ticket, remember that it’s not just you getting a chance to win, every Hoosier wins with every dollar spent on lottery...

Win Colts Suite Tickets From the Hoosier Lottery

Sept. 8, 2014 – The Hoosier Lottery last week released a brand new scratch-off ticket, Colts $20,000 Touchdown Cash, to celebrate the beginning of a new pro football season – and to give Hoosier Lottery players a chance to win awesome prizes, of course. The new scratch-off ticket costs $2 to play and offers players a shot at winning a $20,000 top prize.  When the game launched last Thursday there were eight top prizes available, but somebody has already won $20,000! That leaves seven top prizes, but don’t worry, there are thousands of smaller cash prizes still waiting to be won, and the biggest Colts fans may be more interested in the game’s second prize – or in special second-chance prizes – than $20,000 in cash. That’s because players can instantly win Colts season tickets on the scratch-off game.  Uncovering a “Touchdown” symbol – the image of a referee with his arms raised – means players win the prize shown underneath the symbol. For 24 lucky players, the prize underneath that little referee symbol will say “COLTS,” indicating they’ve won a pair of 2015 Colts Season tickets! The Lottery will pay all the taxes associated with the prize, which is valued at about $3,600, so winners can simply enjoy their seats for the 2015 season. Some players may not want to wait a whole year to see the Colts play live, though.  For those players, a special second-chance promotion to go along with the new Colts scratch-offs may be the answer. Through the promotional contest, Hoosier Lottery players will have a chance to win suite-level tickets to a 2014 Colts regular season game. There are tickets to seven regular-season games up for grabs, and winners will be chosen through second-chance drawings. Four winners will be named in each drawing.  Each will receive four tickets to the Hoosier Lottery Suite, valued at about $3,400; a $200 gift card for the Colts Pro Shop inside the stadium and $100 cash. The second chance promotion is already open,...

Bingo To Go Game Debuts in Indiana

Aug. 26, 2014 – The Hoosier Lottery last week introduced players to a new game, Bingo To Go, which offers players nine prize levels and boasts a top prize worth $100,000. Bingo To Go is a numbers-draw game, and drawings are held four times every day of the week.  There are Morning, Midday, Early Evening and Evening drawings held at 10 a.m., 1:20 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10:50 p.m., respectively. Hoosier Lottery players have their choice of four wager amounts for Bingo To Go: $1, $2, $5, and $10.  The more you bet, the more you can win. But before you can win, you’ll need a ticket.  Players only have the option to buy Quick Pick tickets for Bingo To Go; play slips for the new game let players choose which of the four drawings they’d like to play, their wager amount, the number of bingo boards they’d like on their ticket, and advance drawings, if any. Players can choose to play as many as three Bingo boards on each ticket, and can buy as many as 28 drawings in advance with the advance play options. As the Hoosier Lottery’s Bingo To Go page explains, prize levels for the game are all based on a $1 wager.  When players bet more, prize amounts are simply multiplied by the wager amount. That means the highest prize possible for a $1 bet is a $10,000 top prize, which players can win if they fill in a “big diamond” shape on their bingo board. As wager amounts increase, so do prize amounts.  The top prize for a $2 wager is $20,000; a $5 wager can win $50,000, and players who bet $10 on Bingo to Go can win the highest prize possible: $100,000. Bingo To Go has a second prize worth $250 for a $1 wager, making it worth $2,500 for a $10 wager. There are lots of combinations players can match to win a prize, and a free space in the middle of the board will...

$27.5 Million Hoosier Lotto Jackpot Won

May 12, 2014 – A Hoosier Lotto ticket sold in Kokomo, Ind., this weekend could have been the greatest Mother’s Day Gift ever given, or it could have just gone to one very lucky Hoosier. The single ticket in Kokomo matched all six winning numbers in Saturday’s Hoosier Lotto drawing to win a $27.5 million jackpot. Those winning numbers were 9, 16, 34, 37, 45 and 46.  According to a press release from the Hoosier Lottery, the winning ticket was sold at Marsh Supermarket, 208 Southway Blvd. E. in Kokomo. The massive prize had been growing for more than half a year, since October, 2013, when another Hoosier Lottery player won a $3.5 million jackpot. And, according to another press release from the Lottery Sunday, this weekend’s jackpot win was the end of an era for Hoosier Lotto. Yesterday, changes went into effect that will impact the way Hoosier Lotto jackpots grow.  After a Wednesday night rollover, the jackpot will grow by $300,000, and when the jackpot rolls over after Saturday drawings the jackpot will increase by $200,000 The lottery also adopted the same annuity payout option as Powerball offers its winners: 30 annual payments that increase with each year.  So, for Saturday’s big Hoosier Lotto winner, the question will be cash or 30 years of big checks. Hoosier Millionaire Returns Thursday

March 25, 2014 – After almost 10 years, the Hoosier Millionaire television show will return to Indiana airwaves this Thursday, March 27.  Six players will compete for a spot on the 25th Anniversary episode of the game show. Five of the six contestants have already been chosen through a special second-chance promotion that coincides with the Hoosier Lottery’s Hoosier Millionaire scratch-off game. The instant ticket itself offers players a chance to win as much as $75,000, and non-winning scratch-offs can be entered into the second chance promotion that chooses contestants. In all, there will be 25 winners selected through the second chance drawings, including the five who will compete Thursday. A sixth contestant will also compete Thursday; one lucky member of the live audience at each of the five preliminary game shows will be selected to compete alongside the five second chance winners. To be chosen as the sixth contestant, audience members hoping to become contestants need to drop a non-winning Hoosier Millionaire ticket, with their information on the back, into a barrel at least 20 minutes before the show begins. Second chance winners will each receive $500 cash, but only five of the lucky winners – and one of the five audience members chosen to compete – will get a shot at the Hoosier Millionaire top prize – $1 million. There is still time to enter non-winning tickets into the second chance promotion.  Contestants have been chosen for the first two preliminary game shows, meaning there are still 15 spots left. To enter, players must log in or register for the Hoosier Lottery’s mylottery players club and enter the codes from non-winning...

Quick Draw With Better Odds, Bigger Prizes

Feb. 25, 2013 – This past Sunday the Hoosier Lottery introduced players to a new version of the popular draw game Quick Draw.  According to a Lottery press release, there will be two daily drawings, the game has better odds and now features a $2 million top prize. The new version of Quick Draw also allows players to choose from different wager types.  Players who used to pay $1 for their Quick Draw tickets can now choose from $1, $2, $3 or $5 wagers. The game is still played the same way: players choose 10 numbers from 1 to 80, and 20 winning numbers are drawn in each drawing. Players who match five or more of their numbers with winning Quick Draw numbers will win a prize, then the amount won depends on the wager players put on their ticket. The new game also features a unique prize for players who are a bit short on luck in the drawings.  If a ticket doesn’t match any of the winning numbers drawn – 0 out of 20 – that ticket wins a free ticket prize. So, matching no numbers at all is still winning.  Like a break-even prize, players who miss all of their numbers will get a free ticket with the same amount wagered. With the free ticket prizes and the three new wager amounts, the odds of the new Quick Draw have increased significantly.  The old Quick Draw feature 1-in-15 odds, but the new game offers player a 1-in-9.1 shot at winning. And, with the new mid-day drawing for Quick Draw, players have 13 chances each week to win as much as $2 million.  The mid-day drawings will be held Monday through Saturday at 1:20 p.m., and the evening drawing will be at 10:50 p.m.  Quick Draw is only played in the evening on Sunday....
