Second Halloween Raffle Winner Claims Prize

Nov. 15, 2013 – Lisa Hensley and her husband Jim described the $1 million prize they claimed Thursday as the best welcome gift they could have gotten after they moved to Illinois about a month ago. The couple moved from Indiana to be closer to family, and managed to grab a Halloween Millionaire Raffle ticket before the drawing on Halloween.  That ticket won them one of four $1 million prizes, and they are the second of the four winners to claim. The Hensleys told local WIFR News “we’re just kinda simple people,” and they aren’t in any rush to spend their newfound fortune. Apart from buying a home close to their family in Capron, Ill., they told the Illinois Lottery they’ll share with family, set up college funds for their grandchildren, and do a little extra Christmas shopping this year. The first of Illinois’ four new millionaires to claim his prize was Nicos Digrindakis, who bought his $1 million winning ticket at an Illinois Lottery promotion on his way into work. It was the first time Digrindakis had ever bought a ticket for the Halloween Millionaire Raffle, and he won!  His plans included buying a car and paying for his three daughters to go to college.   Photo Credit: Randy Heintz.  Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Generic 2.0...

Illinois’ Halloween Millionaire Raffle Early Bird Drawing Results

Oct. 2, 2013 – The Illinois Lottery today announced the results of the Early Bird drawing for its Halloween Millionaire Raffle. The Early Bird drawing only selected one winning ticket, out of nearly 90,000 Early Bird players, to win a $500,000 prize.  That winning ticket was purchased at a Shell Station in Marsilles, LaSalle Co., Ill. Congratulations to the lucky early bird, who is the first big winner with the Halloween Millionaire Raffle, but certainly not the first person to win one of thousands of prizes offered on the game. Even though there are only two drawings for the Halloween Millionaire Raffle, players can win every day.  Each Millionaire Raffle ticket printed includes an instant game that gives you a chance to win $100. Players who win one of the five thousand $100 prizes are still eligible for the final drawing, which will be held on Nov. 1, unless all tickets sell out before Halloween, in which case the drawing will be held Oct. 31. The final drawing for the Halloween Millionaire Raffle will award four $1 million prizes to lucky Illinois Lottery players, bringing the total prize amount up for grabs in the whole Raffle to $5,000,000. You’ve got a little less than a month to get one of the Illinois Lottery’s Halloween Millionaire Raffle tickets, but with a chance to win $100 on each one, why wait?   Photo Credit: Randy Heintz.  Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Generic 2.0...

Illinois Joins Breast Cancer Fight with Ticket for the Cure

Sept. 10, 2013 – A month ahead of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Illinois Lottery has once again joined the fight against breast cancer with its newest specialty ticket “Ticket for the Cure”. The Carolyn Adams Ticket for the Cure is the newest in the Illinois Lottery’s line of fundraising scratch-off tickets.   Like the rest of the family of charitable scratch-offs, 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go towards breast cancer awareness, education, and research.   The game itself is a numbers match game, and offers players 12 chances to win up to $20,000.  Matching any of “Your Numbers” to the “Winning Number” at the beginning of the row will win you the prize shown. Uncovering a “Money Bag” symbol in the “Your Numbers” section automatically wins you the prize shown, and a “$$” symbol means you can collect double the prize amount shown. As part of their effort to raise awareness for breast cancer, the Illinois Lottery is also featuring photos of “Ticket for the Cure” players in a social media campaign called #PaintILPink You can submit your photo to be featured on the Illinois Lottery’s website in three simple steps.  Buy a “Ticket for the Cure” to support breast cancer research, snap a photo of you and your “Ticket for the Cure”, then upload it onto the PaintILPink webpage on the Lottery’s website.    ...

Illinois Law Will Keep Lottery Winnings from Parents Who Don’t Pay Their Child Support

In an effort to help children and families, the Illinois Legislature has passed a law that will take gambling and lottery winnings from deadbeat parents who neglect to pay their child support. This law went into effect on August 2, 2013. Parents who fail to pay their child support payments will not be able to receive any winnings from horse races, lottery tickets, or any other forms of legal gambling in the state of Illinois. Senator Darin LaHood is currently sponsoring a law that will give all winnings of deadbeat parents over $1,200 back to the state. This money will then go to the parents who are not receiving their child support payments from the lottery or gambling winner. LaHood has received support on his bill from Governor Pat Quinn. LaHood expects more than $1 million to go back to the families who are owed child support within the first year of the program. Illinois’ new law follows in the footsteps of Indiana, which passed a similar law 3 years prior. The Indiana law has helped more than 16 families get paid in full, with hundreds more currently receiving their benefits. This law comes in an effort to get the parents to pay the amounts they owe in child support. In Illinois alone, a total of $3.1 billion is collectively owed in child support. The state of Illinois currently has multiple efforts geared towards getting deadbeat parents to pay their dues. Currently, hunting and fishing licenses are withheld from parents who owe child support. In addition, the Illinois government attempts to shame parents into paying. They operate a website titled deadbeatsillinois.com that displays parents who are neglecting to help their children. Now the state hopes by withholding gambling winnings, more parents will become more apt to paying their child support. These parents have, until now, been able to continue to neglect their payments while still receiving money from gambling sources, including the Illinois Lottery. This law was signed into place on August 12, 2013, making...
