Illinois’ New Year’s Millionaire Raffle On Sale Fri.

Nov. 20, 2014 – The first-ever New Year’s Millionaire Raffle from the Illinois Lottery hits retail locations in the state early Friday morning.  On the first day of 2015, the game will make millionaires of three lucky winners. The New Year’s Millionaire Raffle this year replaced the Halloween Millionaire Raffle; according to the Lottery’s website, player feedback prompted the change. Also changing with the drawing date is the Raffle’s prize structure, which includes more than 500 prizes more than last year’s Halloween Raffle, which awarded four top prizes and one Early Bird second prize. While there will be no Early Bird drawings in the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle, players will have a chance to win prizes ranging from $1,000 to $1 million. Along with the three $1 million winners, four players will win $100,000; 10 players will win $10,000; and 500 winners will each receive $1,000 prizes. Just like other raffles around the country, Illinois’ New Year’s Millionaire offers players much better odds of winning a $1 million prize. Just 400,000 tickets will be printed, so the odds of winning a $1 million top prize are 1 in 133,000, and that’s only if all of the Raffle tickets are sold.  If fewer tickets sell, the odds of winning get better. If all of the tickets do sell out, no more will be printed.  While that sounds like a lot of tickets to sell before the Jan. 1 deadline, Raffle tickets generally go fast. This year’s game will cost $20, and players can buy New Year’s Millionaire Raffle tickets at any Lottery retailer.  Sales officially begin at 3:30 a.m. Nov 21, and sales will end at 2 a.m. on Jan. 1,...

Happy Hockey Season

Oct. 8, 2014 – Tonight marks the official beginning of hockey season; pucks will drop between eight different teams and hockey fans everywhere (like myself) will rejoice. This also means that those state lotteries who partner with local hockey teams will be getting in on the action as well. Just as they do for football, basketball and baseball teams, state lotteries will be offering players chances to win tickets, merchandise and even score some cash during games. The Massachusetts Lottery has the coolest prizes for hockey fans so far – in a second chance promotion for the new Boston Bruins scratch-off, five winners will win their way onto the ice in the On Ice Challenge. That prize also comes with tickets to several games, jerseys, a ride on the Zamboni, and even some time to hang out with Bruins players before the games. In the same second-chance promotion, lottery players can win retired-jersey banners that are autographed by the players they honor! OK, you can’t win the actual banners you’d find in the Bruins stadium, but you can win 3-foot circular banners for your fan-cave, which is still very cool. Massachusetts may be the first to announce their contest, but don’t think they’ll be the only lottery offering awesome prize packs. The Pennsylvania Lottery says they’ll be giving away hockey and basketball tickets in a Fall Ticket Giveaway later this season. Last year, four lottery players – two Flyers fans and two Penguins fans – won game tickets and VIP experiences before the game. Blackhawks fans might see a promotion from the Illinois Lottery again this year; last season, after the Blackhawks won their second Stanley Cup, the Illinois Lottery gave away 500 authentic Blackhawks jerseys to celebrate. Be sure to check LotteryHUB News for updates on all the hockey promotions to come, we’ll have all the details for you once promotions are announced. Until then, happy hockey season....

Illinois’ Lucky Day Lotto Buy One Get One Free Promotion

July 21, 2014 – For one week only, Illinois Lottery players can get two chances to win for the price of one.  The Illinois Lottery is holding a special promotion, which started yesterday, July 20, for Lucky Day Lotto players. Getting a free ticket is simple – buy a Lucky Day Lotto ticket with EZmatch, and you’ll get a Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick ticket for free. Lucky Day Lotto is a straightforward Pick 5-style game in which players must match all five winning numbers drawn to win the jackpot, but can win prizes for matching as few as two of the five winning numbers. Lucky Day Lotto tickets cost just $1, but to get a free Quick Pick during the Illinois Lottery’s promotion, players will also have to add the EZmatch option to their first ticket, which costs an extra $1. However, that extra buck buys players a chance to win instant prizes up to $5,000.  Adding EZmatch to a ticket will randomly generate another set of five numbers, and if any of the EZmatch numbers on a ticket match the first line of numbers, it’s an instant win. The Illinois Lottery’s promotion is scheduled to last a week, but they could run out of free tickets before then; the Lottery website says that the promotion is limited to 500,000 free tickets.  Read: “While supplies last.” So for an extra chance at winning the Lucky Day Lotto jackpot – which has a $100,000 value for tonight’s drawing – head to your local lottery retailer and grab a Lucky Day Lotto ticket with EZmatch. You just might win three times today, but remember: you can’t win if you don’t play.   Photo Credit: Randy Heintz. Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Generic...

Three New Scratch-Offs for Illinois Lottery Players

June 11, 2014 – The Illinois Lottery announced in a press release Tuesday that players in the state had three new games available, offering chances to win as much as $250,000. The new scratch-offs come at three different price points for players to choose from: for $1 players can enjoy Summer Cash; Queen of Hearts is a new $5 ticket, and the new $250,000 Crossword costs $10. Summer Cash tickets come in three different colors and offer players a chance to win as much as $2,000.  The game is simple to play: uncover three X’s and win the prize shown, and double the prize if you uncover three sun symbols in a row. The new $5 game, Queen of Hearts, offers players 15 chances to win on each ticket and features top prizes worth $200,000.  To win, players need to scratch their “cards” and beat the dealer’s hand.  A pair of queens (“Q’s” on the scratch ticket) wins double the prize shown, and a pair of “5x” symbols wins five times the prize shown. For $10, players can take a chance on $250,000 Crossword which, not surprisingly, offers players a chance to win top prizes worth $250,000.  Each scratch ticket has three different games, and players can even multiply their winnings with a bonus multiplier featured in the top-left of the tickets. Finally, a fourth game was released the same day as the three tickets detailed in Tuesday’s press release.  Red Ribbon Cash is a $2 game with prizes up to $20,000.  But the best part of this new game may not be the prizes, but where the money goes. Red Ribbon Cash is this year’s HIV/AIDS benefit scratch-off.  Each year, the Illinois Lottery releases a special scratch-off ticket from which all of the proceeds go towards “an Illinois free of HIV/AIDS.” Related articles New Illinois Lottery Game’s Proceeds to Go to Multiple Sclerosis Research Luckiest Man On The Planet Wins Lottery 3 Times In 3 Weeks $1 million dollar lottery ticket sold in...

Illinois St. Patrick’s Day Raffle Tickets on Sale

Feb. 14, 2014 – Illinois Lottery players looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day can get ready for the “luck o’ the Irish” by picking up a ticket for the Illinois Lottery’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle. This year’s Raffle has just 500,000 tickets, which means players have the best odds – 1 in 500,000 – of winning a $1 million prize. There are four of those $1 million top prizes up for grabs in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle, which means the odds of scoring one of them are just 1 in 125,000 if all of the Raffle tickets are sold. Including the four $1 million top prizes, the Lottery will give away more than 500 cash prizes on the St. Patrick’s Day Raffle.  There are five $100,000 second prizes and 500 third prizes worth $1,000. Players will be able to find the St. Patrick’s Day Raffle tickets at any of the Lottery’s retailers, and each ticket costs $20. There are only 500,000 St. Patrick’s Day Raffle tickets available, so when they’re all sold out, the Lottery won’t be printing more.  The drawing countdown on the St. Patrick’s Day Raffle webpage says 31 days, so players need to move quickly to make sure they get their chance. Sales will end just before midnight on St. Patrick’s Day, and the Lottery will draw the winners the next day, Tues., March 18.  Once the winning Raffle numbers are drawn, the Lottery will post them on a winning numbers page on their...

Illinois Firefighter Is Halloween Raffle Millionaire

Nov. 20, 2013 – Michael Thomson, a Firefighter from Palatine, Ill. is the third of four new Illinois millionaires after his raffle number was drawn as a $1 million winner in the Illinois Lottery’s Halloween Millionaire Raffle. Thomson said he and some co-workers all bought their Raffle tickets on the same day, while they were out to lunch, but he told the Lottery never expected to have the lucky ticket that beat the odds. He told the Lottery that he was at his firehouse when a co-worker told him a $1 million winning ticket had been sold at the store where they all bought their tickets. Thomson said he asked his girlfriend to read off the winning numbers from the Illinois Lottery’s website, and sure enough, they all matched his ticket. “Everyone was so happy for me, ” he told the Lottery.  “I couldn’t stop staring at my ticket, I couldn’t believe it!” Thomson is the third of four new millionaires to claim his prize, following Lisa Hensley, who claimed her prize Thursday, and Nico Digrindakis, who won the $1 million prize his first time playing the Raffle....
