Florida Lottery Kicks off Fan-Tastic Football Promotion

Aug. 28, 2014 – The Florida Lottery on Wednesday announced the start of their “Fan-tastic College Football Promotion,” which gives Florida Lotto players a special opportunity to win extra prizes like game tickets and college football gear. “This is an excellent opportunity for the Lottery to work with some of the schools that receive funding through Lottery revenue, while creating a great promotion for Florida Lotto players and college football fans alike,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell. To get in on the action, players must pick up a $10 Florida Lotto ticket or a $10 Florida Lotto with Xtra ticket.  A voucher will be printed out along with every $10 Lotto ticket sold during the promotion, and that voucher can be used to enter into one of the five drawings. To enter, Florida Lotto players first need to pick one of the participating universities to “play” with.  Five schools have partnered with the Florida Lottery for this new promotion: Florida State University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Miami and University of South Florida. On the Fan-tastic promotion page on the Florida Lottery’s website, players can choose their favorite of the five teams, then enter into team-specific drawings. In each of the first four drawings, the Florida Lottery will choose 50 winners from each team drawing, for a total of 250 winners in each of those first four drawings. The first 10 winners in each drawing will win two tickets to a 2014 home game for their favorite team, along with team merchandise, $25 in Florida Lottery scratch-offs, and more.  The other 40 winners in each team drawing will win merchandise from their favorite team. The fifth and final drawing in the promotion will be a grand prize drawing, and any entry from the first four drawings – except for winners – will count as an entry into the grand prize drawing. Each of the five teams will have their own grand prize drawing, and five winners will be chosen...

Florida Lottery Transfers $1.49 Billion to Education

Aug. 21, 2014 – The Florida Lottery announced Wednesday that lottery ticket sales last year enabled them to transfer nearly $1.5 billion in funding to public education in the state. “This has been an outstanding year for the Florida Lottery, and for Florida’s students and schools,” said Governor Rick Scott in a Florida Lottery press release. According to the release, the Florida Lottery sold more than $5.36 billion in lottery tickets last year, a record-high for the 26-year-old Lottery.  Each month, the Lottery generated more than $100 million for their beneficiaries. The $1.49 billion deposit to Florida schools brings the Florida Lottery’s total contributions to education in the state to more than $27 billion. “Providing our children with a quality education will equip them with the necessary skills to succeed in life.  We are working to ensure our children are ready to compete in a new global economy,” said Gov. Scott.  “Over the past 26 years, the Lottery has proven its commitment to education funding at every level, and this investment will benefit our children.” “Floridians can always count on the Lottery to remain focused on our mission to maximize revenues for the education programs we fund,” said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell.  “In the coming year, we will continue to explore new product offerings that will help generate enthusiasm among our players and grow revenues for education in our state.”...

Fla. Lottery’s Jackpot Second Chance Drawing Tomorrow

Aug. 12, 2014 – The Florida Lottery will tomorrow name the winners in the second of three second chance drawings for their “Jackpot” family of scratch-off games. Fifty-one lucky Florida Lottery players will have their second chance to win tomorrow.  One player will win a $50,000 second chance jackpot, and 50 other players will win $500 cash prizes. There are four different scratch-off tickets in the Jackpot family of games, $1, $2, $5 and $10 tickets, but the Lottery is holding a single second chance promotion for all four games. Players who enter the codes from non-winning Jackpot scratch-offs receive the same number of entries into the contest as the price they paid for the ticket, so a $10 ticket is worth 10 entries into the next second chance drawing. Unfortunately, the entry period for tomorrow’s drawing has already closed.  But don’t worry – there’s still one more drawing in the promotion, and players have until Sept. 1 to enter non-winning scratch-offs from the Jackpot family of games. That means players have a few weeks worth of chances to win big on the instant games as well.  The top prizes available on the $1 and $2 tickets are $10,000 and $50,000, respectively, and the higher-priced $5 and $10 tickets offer top prizes worth $500,000 and $2 million, respectively. The Jackpot family of games began with 70 top prizes up for grabs, and there are still plenty left.  According to the Florida Lottery’s website, just 20 of the top prizes available on the four games have been won. If you’re really looking to hit the jackpot, the $10 Jackpot game still has five of six $2 million top prizes yet to be won.  Of course, if your ticket turns out to be a non-winner, you can always take a second chance – that ticket could be worth $50,000 the second time around. Mega Millions Jackpot Winners Claim Prize in Florida

April 30, 2014 – The Florida Lottery announced yesterday that Merritt Island residents Raymond Moyer and Robyn Collier, both 35, had claimed the first-ever Mega Millions jackpot won in the state. Collier and Moyer actually won half of a $414 million prize on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.  Their share was worth $207 million. The two came to the Lottery as representatives of the Cobie and Seamus Trust Dated April 21, 2014 and chose the lump-sum, cash option for their $207 million prize.  Before taxes, they’ll receive about $115.4 million.  Collier and Moyer did not say if there were other members of the trust, so it is not clear if the prize will be split up among any other members. For their part, Collier and Moyer said the winnings are “…an incredible blessing that will allow us to do many things we would not have had the opportunity to do before.” They told Florida Lottery officials that they knew they’d won the day after the drawing.  Collier checked their numbers during the morning news and realized they’d matched all six, but Moyer was skeptical when she told him the good news. “I didn’t believe her until I saw the store where we purchased the ticket on the news,” he said, adding that “it was definitely a shock.” For six weeks they held onto the lucky ticket they bought from a Sunoco store, located at 6o0 South Courtenay Parkway in Merritt Island.  As the lottery advises winners do, they took that time to set up a trust and get ready for the windfall that awaited them Tuesday. Now that they’ve redeemed their ticket for cash, the two said they would invest, travel, and go to as many Notre Dame football games as they can. The Sunoco store that sold them their lucky ticket also won a prize: a $100,000 commission for selling Florida’s first Mega Millions jackpot-winning ticket. The other half of the $414 million Mega Millions prize has yet to be claimed.  The other winning...

March 24, 2014 – Basketball fans will be excited to hear that the Florida Lottery and the Miami HEAT have again partnered to offer fans of both a chance to win ticket packages, incredible fan experiences, HEAT merchandise and more through the HEAT Playoff Experience promotion. Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell said that “last year’s Miami HEAT promotion was a huge success,” and called the Lottery’s partnership with the HEAT a “slam dunk for HEAT fans and Lottery players alike.” “We enjoy giving our players the opportunity to support a phenomenal Florida team and raise additional funds for our students and schools,” O’Connell said in a press release Monday. Players who want to help support the HEAT and Florida schools through the Playoff Experience promotion will first need to pick up one of the Florida Lottery’s $5 Big 3 Power Packs. Each “Power Pack” includes one ticket each for Powerball, Mega Millions and Florida Lotto.  With the purchase of any Power Pack, players will receive a voucher, printed out along with their tickets, for entry into the Playoff Experience promotion. From now until April 20, players who use their vouchers to enter into the Playoff Experience promotion will be entered into the first of two drawings, which will be held April 22. Each drawing will award 27 winners with one of nine different prizes, including one Grand Prize winner who will score a “fly-away” ticket package for a Miami HEAT away playoff game.
