Jackpot Games Coming to Colorado Vending Machines

Nov. 7, 2014 -The Colorado Lottery is getting some new vending machines, and players will be excited to know that starting Sunday, Nov. 9, they’ll be able to purchase tickets for jackpot games from vending machines. The new vending machines will also carry scratch-offs, just like before, but playing jackpot games will never have been so convenient. Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto and Cash 5 will all be available through the new vending machines, and players will also be able to purchase Powerball tickets with Power Play and Mega Millions tickets with Megaplier. Players can buy quick picks with the touch of a button, but the new vending machines will also take play slips from anyone who wants to choose their own numbers. That means no more waiting in checkout lines just to get your tickets, and it also means players will be able to check their own tickets for winnings at the new machines. Special scanners are built into the vending machines so players can scan the barcodes on their own tickets and see if they’ve won right away.  If the screen reads “winner,” however, you’ll still have to claim prizes from the Lottery or get paid at the cash register of a lottery...

Colorado Lottery’s in the Holiday Spirit

Nov. 6, 2014 – The Colorado Lottery kicked off the holiday season a bit early this year, launching their four new holiday scratch-off games just before Halloween. Now that they’ve been on sale for about 10 days, players may start thinking about “Giving scratch,” as the Lottery’s holiday promotion suggests. Each of the four new games makes a great gift that could turn into as much as $100,000. Priced at $1, Reindeer Games is an easy-to-play scratch-off that offers players a shot at one of four $5,000 top prizes, one of which has already been claimed. For $2 players can pick up a Happy Holiday$ ticket.  Each ticket offers players ten chances to win a prize, and the overall odds on the game are 1 in 4.  At the top of the Happy Holiday$ prize scale is a $10,000 win, and there are five of those prizes up for grabs. The new $3 ticket, Stocking Stuffer, offers players the best odds of winning a prize – 1 in 3.  The game started with three $30,000 top prizes but one has already been claimed, leaving just two to be won. Finally, the most expensive of the new holiday scratch-offs is the $5 Merry Multiplier.  The game has a top prize of $100,000 and there are just two of those prizes up for grabs.  Overall odds on the game are 1 in 4, and each ticket offers players 20 chances to win. The best part about the new holiday games is that each one is eligible for it’s own second-chance drawing in the “Giving is Sweet” promotion. Players who don’t win the first time around can enter their tickets into the special second chance promotion for a chance to win prizes ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on which tickets they enter. Each of the four holiday games will have it’s own drawing, and the second-chance prizes correspond to the ticket prices: $1 tickets can win a $1,000 second-chance prize, the $2 ticket can be entered for a chance at a $2,000...

Colorado Powerball Jackpot Winner Claims $90 Million

Aug. 14, 2014 – Fifty-three-year-old Claude G. is the lucky winner who struck it rich in last Saturday’s Powerball drawing, winning an estimated $90 million jackpot. Claude “Al” G., who declined to give his last name during a press conference after he claimed his prize, matched the numbers 3, 12, 31, 34, 51 and the Powerball, 24, to win the jackpot. He told reporters and lottery officials at the Colorado Lottery’s headquarters Wednesday that the Sunday morning after the draw, he woke up to the sound of his wife, Jackie, screaming “oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!” According to the Denver Post, Jackie and one of the couple’s two daughters purchased the lucky Powerball ticket, a Quick Pick.  This was the first time they’d won more than a few dollars. The big win wasn’t just a family record, either.  Their $90 million jackpot is the largest Powerball jackpot ever won in Colorado. When asked what they would do with their newfound wealth, Claude said all they had planned so far was to take a second honeymoon; the couple celebrated their 33rd anniversary Friday, just one day before the life-changing drawing. Other than that, they’re not sure what they’ll do other than “have fun.”  Claude said at Wednesday’s press conference that he’s “been waking up since Sunday feeling like this isn’t really real.” The couple hasn’t decided yet whether they’ll take the full $90 million annuity or the estimated $54 million cash value of the prize.  Claude said he hired lawyers to help him manage the family’s windfall. Despite millions in the bank, though, Claude said at the press conference that he might feel the need to keep his job as a tow truck driver, “to keep from going completely...

Colorado Ticket Wins Powerball Jackpot

Aug. 10, 2014 – A single ticket sold in Colorado matched all six winning numbers in Saturday night’s Powerball drawing, winning an estimated $90 million jackpot. The winning ticket was bought in Rifle, Colo.  When they come forward to claim their prize, the lucky winner or winners will have their choice between the full $90 million prize, paid out over 29 years, or the jackpot’s estimated $54 million cash value. Saturday’s winning numbers were 3, 12, 31, 34, 51 and the Powerball was 24.  The Power Play multiplier drawn Saturday was 2x, so players who added the optional multiplier to their tickets and won a prize will receive twice the normal prize amount. Along with the jackpot winner there were six other players who became millionaires Saturday night.  One lucky player from Maryland won the highest non-jackpot prize available, a $2 million Power Play second prize. Five other winning tickets also matched all five white numbers to win second prizes Saturday, though none of those tickets had the Power Play option added. One winner each from Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico and New York won Powerball’s normal $1 million second prize.  The fifth of the new millionaires bought their ticket in California. Lottery prizes there are paid on a pari-mutuel basis, so prize amounts can vary based on the total number of players and the number of winners.  Because of that pari-mutuel system, the second-prize winner in California will receive a second prize worth more than $7.6 million. Along with the new millionaires made Saturday night, another 27 players were able to match five of the six winning numbers – four white numbers and the Powerball – to win third prizes. Five of those winners had added the Power Play option to their tickets, so they’ll receive $20,000 prizes.  The other 22 winners will each receive Powerball’s normal $10,000 third prize. In all, more than 443,000 Powerball players won one of the game’s nine prizes Saturday night, collectively raking in about $9.8 million in non-jackpot...

Colorado Lottery’s “Saddle Up Getaway”

Jan. 17, 2014 – The Colorado Lottery has been at the National Western Stock Show all this week, giving away prizes and drawing finalists for their “Saddle Up Getaway” giveaway. The Stock Show runs through Jan. 26, and the Lottery will be there the whole time, so players have more than a week to get to the show and enter their name for a chance at winning the Lottery’s vacation giveaway. The grand prize drawing will be held Saturday the 25th, and will decide one winner for the Saddle Up Getaway prize package, valued at more than $2,200. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 from Frontier Airlines to fly anywhere in the continental U.S.  The winner can choose however many tickets they want for a $1,000 total. Then, whenever they get to where their going, the winner will get two single-stay vouchers from a Marriott hotel, which are good for a one-night stay up to $300 in value. Whether they pocket it or put it in the bank is their choice, but the grand prize winner will also score $500 in cash. And the “getaway” can start before that lucky winner even goes anywhere; part of the grand prize package is two VIP tickets, each worth $75, to the Finals Rodeo, right there at the Stock Show. The grand prize winner will be chosen from a pool of 150 finalists.  Each day this week and continuing until the morning of the grand prize drawing, the Lottery is drawing one winner of a daily prize and 10 finalists to be entered into the grand prize drawing. The daily drawing prizes vary, but include Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets ticket packs, Rodeo All-Star tickets and free scratch tickets – the final daily drawing on the 26th will award one lucky winner $300 worth of free scratch-off tickets. To enter into the daily drawings, and for a chance to be a finalist in the Saddle Up Getaway drawing, players need to stop by the Colorado Lottery’s...

Giving Is Sweet Promotion Drawing to a Close

Jan. 14, 2014 – The Colorado Lottery reminded players all through the holiday season that “giving is sweet,” particularly when it comes to giving Colorado Lottery scratch-off tickets. Their “Giving is Sweet” second-chance promotion is nearing its end.  Players who may have given but not gotten scratch-offs for the holidays have less than one week to enter non-winning tickets eligible for the second chance promotion. There are four games, all holiday-themed, which players can enter into the contest.  The least expensive of the four with a $1 price tag is The Reindeer Game.  All of The Reindeer Game’s top prizes, each worth $5,000, have already been claimed, but the game still offers players 1 in 4 odds at winning smaller cash prizes instantly. For $2, players can get a Holiday Greeting$ ticket, which offers a top prize worth $10,000.  There are three of the original five top prizes remaining, and players have a 1 in 4 chance of winning other instant prizes on each Holiday Greeting$ ticket. Holiday Wishe$ is a $3 game with 1 in 3 odds against players winning an instant prize, the best odds of all of the tickets eligible for the Lottery’s Giving is Sweet promotion.  The game has a $35,000 top prize, and there is one of the original three top prizes remaining. The fourth and final ticket eligible for the Giving is Sweet promotion is the $5 Holiday Red or Holiday Green tickets (same game, different colors).  The game offers 1 in 4 overall odds, and there is one $100,000 instant top prize yet to be won. Each of the four games offers great odds and great prizes, but there are always more non-winning tickets than winners.  But those non-winning tickets could still be worth a lot of cash when the Giving is Sweet drawing comes around. Four winners will be drawn Jan. 21; there will be an exclusive drawing for each of the four games. The winner drawn from The Reindeer Game entries will win $1,000; the winner of...
