Cash in on Kentucky’s Pick 4 Mistake

July 30, 2013 – A stray ball made its way from the first Kentucky Pick 4 barrel to the second, so if you checked the numbers and figured you lost, you might want to check again.

After realizing there were only nine balls in the first draw chamber, and 11 in the second, the Kentucky Lottery quickly decided to hold a second midday Pick 4 drawing, and promised they’d pay out on both.

The numbers in the first drawing were 1, 7, 6, and 5, which 38 people matched.  All 38 won prizes worth $11,300.

In the second drawing, the numbers drawn were 9, 7, 4, and 9, though it is not yet clear how many tickets matched that second set of numbers, or what the payout was for winners of the second Pick 4 draw.

According to a report from – a local NBC affiliate’s website – the second drawing took place just before 3 P.M.

In yesterday’s evening Pick 4 drawing, 85 people matched the numbers 2, 7, 4, and 5 to win prizes worth $37,800.

According to the Kentucky Lottery’s Pick 4 website, both sets of numbers from the midday drawings can now be paid out at the Lottery’s retailers.
