Aug. 13, 2012 – The South Carolina Education Lottery announced Monday in a press release that the draw game will end after the drawing Thursday, Oct. 17.
The Lottery said that the Cash 6 game, which was introduced at the beginning of April this year, hadn’t gained much traction; ticket sales fell short of expectations.
“Our players never fully embraced the Carolina Cash 6 game, and without their support there was no reason to continue selling tickets…” said Paula Harper Bethea, the Lottery’s executive director.
“We continually refresh products and listen to feedback from our players,” she said. “Our players have spoken on Carolina Cash 6. We owe it to them and to the state to discontinue the game and find other ways to maximize funding for education.”
The press release said the game will reign in advance draw sales as the deadline nears. Players will be able to purchase tickets for the final Cash 6 drawing up to 6:45 P.M., and the drawing will take place at 6:59 P.M.
Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes, and once that period ends and all prizes have been paid out, remaining, unclaimed prize money will go directly towards education programs in the state.
