Calif. Lottery Sending Winner to The French Laundry

Dec. 16, 2014 – Lottery players dream of winning all sorts of things, but dinner at one of the most posh restaurants in the country may not be what you’d expect to find at the top of those jackpot wish lists.

But the California Lottery is offering just that once-in-a-lifetime experience players can win through a special contest for the scratch-off game Emerald 10’s.

The winner will spend an evening at The French Laundry, dining on 18 courses created by Chef Thomas Keller and even receiving a special gift from the world-renowned chef and restaurateur.

“What better way to celebrate California, our farm-to-fork movement and one of the world’s best restaurants than to offer [players] the ultimate The French Laundry experience,” said the Lottery’s Deputy Director of Corporate Communications, Russ Lopez, in a statement.

“If you love food, buy a ticket, take a chance and join the ultimate ‘foodie’ club,” Lopez said.

The French Laundry is one of a handful of restaurants in the country to receive three stars from the Michelin Guide, their highest honor.

According to their website, the French Laundry “commits itself creating classic French cuisine with the finest quality ingredients, along with a similarly intense focus on impeccable guest service.”

The restaurant is in Napa Valley, so the California Lottery will also put the lucky winner up in a spa and resort and transport them to the restaurant (in a BMW) for their unique meal.

There’s just one prize to be won, so how do players enter?  First, they’ll have to take a chance on the $10 Emerald 10’s game, which offers chances to win prizes up to $1 million.

Then, French Laundry hopefuls should take a selfie with their ticket and write a caption explaining who they would bring along for dinner and why.

The contest doesn’t begin until Jan. 5, and the Lottery expects final details for the contest to be released around Jan. 1.
