June 27, 2013 – “Two Stanley Cups and two goals in 17 seconds prove that anything’s possible,” said Illinois Lottery superintendent Michael Jones.
Earlier today Jones, a long-time fan of the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team, announced that the Illinois Lottery would be adding 500 authentic Blackhawks jerseys to the prize pool for the 4th of July Millionaire Raffle.
Jones joked with morning radio talk show host Garry Meier that the jerseys are “almost as hard to get these days as a million dollars.”
This year is the first year the Illinois Lottery has held the 4th of July Millionaire Raffle. Launched on Memorial Day weekend, the raffle offered 1 million tickets for sale, and originally planned to award 1,776 cash prizes to commemorate Independence Day.
With the addition of the 500 jerseys, which Jones said were added in honor of the Blackhawks’ second Stanley Cup win in four years, there are now 2,276 prizes up for grabs.
There were four “early bird” drawings held in June, which paid out about 2.8 million in prizes ranging from $1,000 to $500,000.
The grand prize for the raffle is $1 million, and the winning ticket for that prize will be drawn, along with the winners for the jerseys and any remaining cash prizes, on the morning of July 5.
